Hungary’s newly elected Prime Minister Peter Magyar has stated that his government will comply with international law and enforce arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court against any global leader.

Speaking to the media, Magyar was asked whether Benjamin Netanyahu would be arrested if he visited Hungary. In response, he said the law applies equally to all and that his government would act in accordance with ICC directives.

Magyar emphasized that Hungary would uphold its international obligations, marking a shift from previous policies. He also announced that the process of withdrawing from the ICC—initiated under former Prime Minister Viktor Orban—would be halted.

According to Magyar, the earlier move to distance Hungary from the ICC was seen by critics as an attempt to shield certain leaders from potential legal action, particularly in the context of allegations related to the conflict in Gaza.

The statement signals a significant policy change and underscores Hungary’s renewed commitment to international legal frameworks. Analysts suggest that the move could have broader diplomatic implications, especially in relations with countries that reject ICC jurisdiction.

Legal experts note that enforcing ICC warrants remains a sensitive issue globally, as not all countries recognize the court’s authority. Hungary’s stance could place it at the center of international legal and political debates, particularly if high-profile visits occur.

The announcement comes amid heightened global scrutiny over accountability and international justice. Observers believe Hungary’s position may influence other nations’ approaches toward the ICC and reinforce discussions about the enforcement of international law.

The development is expected to shape diplomatic dynamics and raise questions about how states balance political alliances with legal commitments.
